My night onboard the beautiful NCL Getaway!

Last April I boarded the NCL Breakaway for her launch in Southampton which was evening on a great ship so when I heard the NCL Getaway was also going to be launching in Southampton I knew I had to book to spend the night onboard before she sets said for New York!

So me and my husband travelled down to Southampton on the 15th January 2014 for our 1 night taster cruise of the Getaway, we knew we wanted to try on of the specialities so we booked for Moderno Brazilian online with NCL a couple of weeks earlier to guarantee we could get it, I would hugely recommend to pre book also , peace of mind!

As it was only a 1 night taster cruise we decided to book just an inside cabin which was absolutely fine, plenty of space and the bathroom seemed a larger size than normal.

We had a walk around the ship when we arrived and realised she is pretty much identical to the Breakaway which we loved! We had lunch in O’Sheehans, we look this Irish pub and the chicken wings with blue cheese sauce are amazing! We had a couple of afternoon glasses of wine around the ship and even headed up to the tops decks but with the wind and rain and views of Southampton it wasn’t the most tranquil place, maybe if we were in the Caribbean it would have been different! The onboard waterpark looks fantastic, for adults and kids, I know if I was holidaying in her in warmer climates I would definitely be making use of the slides!

We headed to Moderno for our evening meal, having heard nothing but fantastic reports about this speciality restaurant from previous ships we were excited to try it out and we were not disappointed! You have a buffet style starter of salads, cold meats, bread, soups etc, then waiters are walking around the restaurant carrying meats of all variety’s, steak, chicken, ribs, sausages and more! You are given a card on your table which is red on one side and green on another, when you want meat you turn the card green, if you want a break or are finished you turn the card red. Unfortunately we ate a little too much and I was very full but of course I did squeeze in a pudding! We headed for Howl on the Moon after for a few cocktails, there was a great atmosphere in this bar with a couple playing the piano whilst taking requests from the guests, great audience participation and guests were dancing away!

Before heading of on the drive home we filled up on buffet breakfast, and again I couldn’t fault the food, plenty of choice whether you wanted a hot breakfast or something cold!

Al in all a great evening onboard a beautiful ship. I would recommend this ship to passengers looking for plenty of dining choices and entertainment for adults and children alike!
