I am back from Captivating Cuba!

I use the word captivating because that really is how to explain Cuba, such a fantastic, friendly beautiful island I will definitely return again one day!

This was a last minute holiday only 1 week before we decided to book 2 weeks of sunshine and decided on Cuba having never been before.

We flew on the new Thomson Dreamliner which I have to say is a fantastic plane and well worth opting for a Dreamliner flight is you have the option, tons of legroom, mood lighting, larger windows, they even pump through more oxygen reducing the feel of jet lag, and the flight times are cut a little shorter!

We stayed at a beautiful hotel called the Playa Pesquero, Located in Pesquero near Guardalavaca. I would highly recommend the hotel if you are ever thinking of taking a trip to Cuba, beautiful rooms, pristine white sandy beach with great snorkelling and watersports options, plenty of restaurant and bar choices including 6 speciality restaurants and our favourite bar, the mojito bar with every flavour of mojito you can imagine! and most of all wonderful staff! We spent our days lying in the sunshine and drinking champagne mojitos!

We headed out on a horse and carriage one morning into a local village called Menilla and it really is eye opening at how poor the island is, our guide took us to one of his family members house where they had created a zoo in the garden with crocodiles, turtles, peacock, pigs, chameleon and lots more! The people of Cuba really appreciate anything you can give to them, toothpaste, toiletries, chocolate, pens, clothes pretty much anything you can spare or take with you is greatly appreciated by the staff or locals. We also headed on an excursion to Cayo Saetia Island but I will tell you more about this in my next post!

We would have loved to visit Havana but this was a long distance from our resort, wither 12 hours by coach each way or you could take a flight which was very costly, maybe this is something we can try next time!

You can however get to Cuba on a cruise although there aren’t many cruise liners that have Cuba in  the itinerary. Thomson and Fred Olsen cruises both have itinerary’s featuring Cuba with their main port of call being Havana.

I would 100% recommend Cuba, and if I was to return the Playa Pesquero is the only hotel for me!
