Fuerteventura

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic week away in Fuerteventura, although a little more sunshine would have been nice! temperatures were great 24c plus but most days were cloudy so we found ourselves having lazy mornings, taking walks down to the harbour area, stopping of for a glass of wine and tapas! We found some great local restaurants especially Cafe Bar Habana which we visited every single day whether it was for a cappuccino, breakfast, lunch , an afternoon glass of wine or our evening meal!

Whilst away it got me thinking, there are so many cruises down to the Canary Islands but I rarely see Fuerteventura on the itinerary’s? The capital is Puerto Del Rosario and this is where the main port area is located , all be it not a very large port area which I’m guessing is why there aren’t many cruise liners visiting the island especially not the huge ships! I have done a little investigating since i have been back and there are actually quite a few cruise liners visiting Fuerteventura including Fred Olsen, Thomson and Costa cruises who all mainly seem to use the port during the winter months. To be honest there isn’t a huge amount of attractions for passengers to visit on the island, most excursions were either across to Lanzarote for the day which wouldn’t really attract cruise passengers as the likely ness is they will visit lLanzarote anyway! There is a zoo kind off park called Oasis Park which could potentially be popular with families, and then catamaran trips along with the general island tours stopping of at local villages. If i was arriving on a ship personally i would probably head to the sand dunes in Corralejo, they are absolutely stunning and everywhere you look around you is just sand!

Fuerteventura has friendly locals, great restaurants and amazing beaches so definitely worth a visit if your ship does happen to be visiting the island on your next cruise!
