Norwegian Epic Ship Visit

Norwegian Epic

On Monday the 19th of October I managed to visit the Epic before it set sail to Barcelona. It had been in dry dock for around 3 weeks having minor alterations carried out.

My first impression I’m sorry to say is that it isn’t a very attractive ship to look at. Standing on the quay and looking up it does look like a tower block of flats and just at the top you can see the colourful water slides winding around on the top deck.

Dog Lamp

On entering the ship we headed for The Cavern Club which like it’s name sake is a replica of The Cavern in Liverpool. Outside the bar there is what I can only describe as an interesting choice of lighting. Its a lamp in the shape of a dog taking a whoopsie. I’m not sure what the thinking was behind this was. Having sad that like many before and after me I had my photo taken with it! Inside The Cavern Club the brickwork is open and if you look closely enough you can see the names of famous people on each individual one.

In groups we were led off to explore the rest of the ship and headed straight to the casino. For all gamblers out there this is a great spot with lot’s of machines and tables to play Poker, Roulette. Through the casino we approached the atrium which is magnificent. It stretches over two floors and looks really sparkly. Definitely eye catching and a talking point. On from here is the main dining restaurant. The Epic has 23 restaurants but only 4 are included in the Freestyle dining which did surprise me. There is plenty of choice from Italian to French to self serve buffet. As we were walking round the staff had begun to board and were all meeting in the main restaurant for their welcome brief.

The Theatre holds up to 680 people and are running two shows which are Burn the floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.  Other entertainment venues include The Comedy Club and Cirque Dreams and dinner which comes at a surcharge, starting from $29pp.

The main pool area outside consists of a small pool with splash area. If you’re feeling daring enough try a go at 200ft Epic plunge, which is just one of the 3 slides on board. Or if that is too strenuous for you relax back in one of the hot tubs. Here you will also find the H2o adults only beach club and the outside cinema. You can really be a busy or as relaxed on board  the Epic. If you feel you’re pilling on the pounds from the glorious food on offer you can spend some time in the Gym which has state of the art equipment. Or if that sounds like too much like hard work you treat yourself to a massage or facial in the Mandara Spa, offering both men and women’s treatments.

Also on board they have an internet cafe for those who need to contact home and a Library, which they encourage people to leave behind books they have read to try increase the choice of books on board.

The Market Place is the on board shopping arcade offering anything from simple sundries to designer labels. They also have  The Collection Art Gallery where browsers, bidders and bidders are more than welcome.

We ended our tour in the Le Bistro Restaurant having a 3 course lunch. For starters I enjoyed the parma ham with melon followed by salmon a seasonal vegetables. For desert I had a rhubarb cafe creme which was delicious.

Overall I found the Epic to be a real family friendly ship which suits all ages. There really is something for everyone and it comes highly recommended by me. I hope you enjoyed my review as much as I did my visit.
