Getting ahead of theme!!

The ever growing theme cruise market has caught my eye recently, with American cruise operators really embracing the positive effect of a cruise having a ‘theme’ drawing people that wouldn’t necessarily think of taking a cruise, incentivised to get involved. The thought of getting on a ship may have previously evaded their thoughts, but the pull of spending their holiday with a bunch of like minded people quenching their thirst for the hobbies they love is a win win surely.

All of the cruise operators seem to be getting involved, with everything from Strictly Come Dancing to wine themed cruises (not sure I would want to admin my hobby is wine) and a huge array of guest speakers, chefs and other celebrities, it does make me think this sort of cruising is only going to grow and grow.

On a recent trip to head office, it was brought to my attention that we have teamed up with Fred Olsen and Gardner’s World and are doing a gardening themed cruise. While this isn’t quite my cup of tea, I bet there are a hell of a lot of people out there that would love tours escorted by the professionals.  (Details can be found here http://www.gardenersworld.com/offers/ and click on travel )

So this leads me nicely onto the future, I have read about tattoo themed cruises, and think this might just be the start of things to come, there are so many subjects these companies could theme their cruises around, I for 1 am quite looking forward to watching it unfold. How long until Mr Cowell sees the £ signs and offers an X-Factor theme or Britain’s Got Talent? I have also looked at Carnival’s offering something called Carnival Live, where they have a live act at sea. How great would that be? See your favourite artist, without the long drive home, not worrying about having a couple of drinks.

What are your thoughts on theme cruises? I would love to know.
