Man Overboard the things you don’t always hear about.

Just last week a young man fell overboard unnoticed from  one of the world’s largest cruise ships ‘Oasis of the seas ‘   holding 6,360 and towering 18 decks high.

How on earth did this happen ? is the question everyone is thinking , surely there should be some kind of system in place to detect  this ? was it an act of god or was this a sad case of suicide ? I suppose this may never be answered .

Did you know that there have been 243 cases of man overboard since 1995 ? and most cases have gone unsolved due to the passengers never being found.

Thanks to a passing Disney cruise ship the man was spotted  and rescued just 5 hours later .

Dramatic video footage of the rescue shows the man battling the waves as he heads toward an orange lifeboat that had been launched by the Disney ships crew.

He was then taken to a local hospital, where he was looked after and flown back to the US in a good condition.

This man was  extremely lucky I’m sure you will agree ?

This happened in the same week of the anniversary  of one of the worst disasters at sea the sinking of the  ‘Costa Concordia’

and the tragic loss of thirty two lives on the 13th January 2012.

The great news is after this tragic disaster  the cruise industry saw a standardisation of ten new safety precautions and after a recent survey 70% of holidaymakers felt that not only were safety procedures clearly explained they had also massively improved since the sinking.
