Liverpool celebrate the year 2015

I wanted to share the fantastic news about the port of Liverpool for the year of 2015. As Liverpool is the nearest port to where I live I have always been really keen on supporting the Liverpool departures, although it has not made it as big as Southampton the Liverpool Cruise Terminal has a reputation as one of the most desirable cruise destinations in Europe.  Liverpool is an efficient, friendly and convenient UK departure point, rich in maritime heritage and the birthplace of the first passenger cruise line. Since the cruise terminal opened in 2007, the port has renewed its links with the great ocean liners of the world. It’s no wonder it has been awarded the Cruise Critic awarded us the ‘Best UK Port of Call’ for the 2013 and 2014 season. Lets see whats in store for 2015

Liverpool Cruise Terminal looks set for a record breaking year in 2015 as 54 cruise ships are scheduled to berth there, bringing with them more than 80,000 international visitors to the city. Many of these are  from new vessels and cruise lines which will be  making their inaugural calls along the Mersey to the historic port.

The  highlight of the year though has to be  celebration of Cunard Cruise Line’s 175th anniversary.

The Celebrations start on the  25 May  when all three queens will arrive  on the Mersey, this is said to be a once in a lifetime event and will make maritime history .  I am awaiting my invitation but if I don’t make the guest list I will still pop down for the day .Then the celebrations continue on the  4th  July, the  flagship of the fleet the Queen Mary 2 will return to Liverpool to celebrate Britannia’s transatlantic departure exactly 175 years earlier. There will be a series of events across the city celebrating the glamour and excitement of cruise travel and how an industry that was born in Liverpool changed the world culturally.

Joe Anderson, the mayor of Liverpool, said: “To have the three Cunard Queens back in their spiritual home on our beautiful waterfront will be nothing short of majestic.

Also making a Mersey debut in 2015 is the brand new P&O Brittania the  Royal Princess, Celebrity Silhouette and then Mein Schiff 4 and the Spanish Pullmantur Horizon.Along with some exclusive smaller ships calling for their first time such as the Le Boreal and le Soleal from Ponant, a French group and Marina and Nautica from the Oceania Cruise Line. Which will also bring a whole host of nationalities more than ever before.

As well as the ships that are visiting the ports there are also a couple of companies that set sail from Liverpool they include Fred Olsen and  Cruise and Maritime various months throughout the year.
