Cruise virgin – not!!

As you know I am taking my mum on a cruise for her 70th birthday in July. I thought this would be her 1st cruise as she has never cruised before but it won’t be as she has now booked a cruise to go away with her friend at the end of this month.

I thought she would be a cruise virgin when we go but that is not the case anymore.

My mum is a widow as we lost my dad 5 years ago so she wanted to get away for a bit as it will be the anniversary of his death on 1st May.  Her friend’s husband is poorly so he can’t travel but she has been advised to take a break by the carers so they both decided they would do a cruise.

They have been on short breaks to Blackpool and local places but decided to push the ‘boat’ out and go on a cruise – pardon the pun!

So my mum called me yesterday to see what I could sort out for her.  I checked various options including fly-cruise & sailing from the UK.  I found some really good deals with P&O on their ‘getaway’ fares.  Only £599 for 13 night cruise on 27th April on the Oceana – I was amazed at this price myself so when I told my mum & her friend about it, they snapped it up. It would cost a lot more for 7 nights fly cruise.

I was slightly worried about the dress code as my mum doesn’t do ‘dressing up’ but luckily on the Oceana it is a relaxed dress code so nothing to worry about really.

So now I’ve booked their cruise for them and they travel in less than 2 weeks  shopping is on the cards & I know my mum will want me to go with her so that’s a trip to Bolton next week on my day off to pick out some cruise clothes for her.

I think she will really enjoy this break and she needs it along with her friend.  I will worry about her though as neither of them have cruised before but I’m sure they’ll be absolutely fine. At least she’ll have a better idea when we go on our cruise in July.

I have been on the Oceana so can tell them all about the ship and what to expect.  The itinerary is great too, they visit Lisbon, Canaries & Madeira so the weather should be pretty good at these destinations. The more I think about it the more jealous I become as I have to wait till July for my holiday.

So what do you think about these prices? Here are a few of the last minute deals with P&O:-

21 April – Oriana 12 nights inside cabin £569 per person
27 April – Oceana 13 nights inside cabin £599 per person
04 May – Ventura 14 nights inside cabin £599 per person

Princess cruises also have Crown Princess 1 June 11 nights inside cabin £699.
