Treated Like Royalty

On Saturday 08th June I was fortunate enough to be invited to see the Royal princess with a night on board.  The sun was shining so when we arrived in sunny Southampton once up on deck if I closed my eyes I could have been in the Caribbean.  Unfortunately we were not sailing anywhere so the view of Southampton docks was as good as it was going to get but this day was all about seeing the ship and what it had to offer. As soon as we got on board we went straight up to our cabins which were a deluxe balcony on deck 14.  The cabin was nice and had a very spacious wardrobe and storage area opposite the bathroom.  The bathroom was a nice size and shampoo and conditioner dispensers were inside which is handy.  The only negative point of the cabin was I felt they could of benefited from a splash of colour as they were very neutral and bland in decoration.

Once we had settled in we grabbed a deck plan and set off on our adventures going up to the main pool area to check out the Movies under the stars and the Sea walk features.  The Sea Walk is a 28 ft extended glass walkway which offers views you won’t get on any other ship. Bravely stepping on and then peering down through the glass floor is a strange feeling and not for those who suffer from Vertigo but I imagine once your out at sea and looking down it will be fantastic.
Movies under the Stars which are a main feature on the Princess ships.  The Poolside cinema screen which provides an open air movie experience under the stars allows you to cosy up on a comfortable chaise lounge, complete with a pillow blanket and your very own bucket of popcorn.  The screen is huge and watching your favourite movie or sports event on here is a must do experience.

We then moved onto The Sanctuary and Retreat and I have to say this for me is definitely the wow factor of this ship. This is an adult only sanctuary area with its own private pool and private cabanas.  It is very peaceful and tranquil on this area and beautifully decorated with Rock and Topiary gardens.  Entrance to this area is $15 for half a day or $25 for full day.  As a special twist they also have four private Cabanas which have their own personal televisions, comfy sofas and robes and slippers.  You are treated to a fully stocked min bar and your own personal steward.

The Lotus Spa on board Royal Princess was really impressive.  The decor in here was all cream and black very modern and luxurious and it smelt amazing. They have lots of different treatment rooms and options but the best part was the fresh water pool and relaxation area. This had heated beds and 8 different showers which had various settings from rain mist to tropical mist features.  There were also water bed relaxation seats and they were very comfortable.  You also get a full drinks service in here so could easily spend the day in here as the ultimate treat.
After we looked around the Art Gallery , Bars , shops and Specialty restaurants it was then time for us to get ready for dinner which was in the main restaurant.  The choice on the menus was fantastic and we ended up having a five course meal which consisted of a seafood platter, a cream pea soup, a orange and lemon sorbet, fillet of beef and a coffee dessert.  The service was very good and wine and water was topped up at all times.  There was a really nice atmosphere in the restaurant and we left there feeling happy and full to the brim.  On the evening we went up to the lido deck where there was a special guest appearance from pop singer Lamar.  He performed a few hits and it was quite the party atmosphere with everyone clapping and singing along.  There were lots of venues to go to after dinner and the Piazza area was buzzing with live music and dancing and attracted a good crowd.  If you’re feeling like staying up and partying then you can end the night in the nightclub which was playing all the latest tunes and hits.  All in all we had a fantastic time and I was really impressed with the ship.  It was my first experience of Princess and I would describe the ship as very elegant with lots of little secret hideaways to relax and have a well-deserved rest.
