A Norwegian Christmas Tree

I must admit I love Christmas. I’m not a fan of the fact it starts earlier and earlier each year but I look forward to the traditions that we have.

I try and make time to go to a carol service, though sometimes life gets in the way.

The one I went to most recently was in a barn, complete with a donkey, hens and sheep!

I lived in North West London for about 11 years. One of my traditions was to go to Trafalgar Square each December to see the tree that is given to us every year by Norway, in recognition of our support during the second world war. If you fancy doing this, my top tip is to check when the carol singers are there as this really adds to the magic.

Next on my ‘to do’ list in London is to go to Harrods and see the window displays, along with looking in the Food Hall. I keep a tight rein on my credit card as I could end up buying several expensive things to eat. It always amazes me when I see the variety of things that you can buy in Harrods:

From coffee machines to vases; from Harrods umbrellas and key-rings to handbags and luggage; as well as all kinds of designer wear and sportswear.

Oxford Street and Regent Street at Christmas is another must-do. Admittedly, there have been times when the twinkly lights have left a lot to be desired – I’m thinking of the time they were sponsored by Tango and the message was “Tis the season to be Tango’d” Not exactly what I think of when I’m thinking of Christmas.

Fortunately, this has been the exception rather than the rule and I believe rules have been put in place to stop this type of advertising.

There is something truly magical about walking around in the dark with all the lights sparkling.

You see people smiling and laughing and it makes you smile as well.

Maybe this is the true Spirit of Christmas?

Merry Christmas to all of you!

I look forward to helping you book your next cruise, once we’ve all recovered from the festive season. I’m back on 27th Dec at 10 am.
