Corsica

This Beautiful Island is a welcome break form the hustle and bustle if you are cruising. With stunning beaches, Clear waters, and such a varied landscape it is hard to imagine sometimes that you are on the same island. The wild mountainous interior gives plenty for you to explore and you can always find an isolated beach if you want to get away from it all. The local cuisine will it’s exquisite seafood and use of local ingredients will have the gourmet in you watering at the mouth and if you choose to come here I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

What more could you ask for really.

Portofino

Perched on a little Italian Peninsular not far from Genoa this picture postcard town is sleepy in the winter but in summer when the Yachting Fraternity are on the move and cruise ships anchor in the bay it becomes a haven for people watching. Smart boutiques, Art galleries and pavement cafes line the narrow streets as tourists flock to admire this quaint town.  Being a beach town you can top up your tan or enjoy the water sports on offer or you can take in the cultural sights like the Historic Church of St Martin or ‘Divo Martino’ as it’s known in Italian or the Castello or hill top fortress to you and me.  There also opportunities for hiking and Mountain bike riding as well for those who are feeling a little more energetic.

Dubrovnik

Every time I see this beautiful city I notice something new. The old town with its baroque architecture and marble streets with a back drop of the shimmering Adriatic never fails to impress.

It is no wonder that George Bernard Shaw was enchanted by this beautiful city, saying “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik”, as well as, famously, describing it as “the pearl of the Adriatic”. It truly is a stunning city with an amazing Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

Hydra in Greece

Set in the Saronic gulf this gem of island is not the easiest place to get to and if you want to cruise here there are only a handful of More discerning companies that visit like Voyages of Antiquity, Sea Dream and Azamara. The island allows no cars or motorised vehicles so if you want to explore here it is by Donkey or Shank’s pony in other words your own two feet. With its stunning crystal waters, winding rural paths that criss-cross the island and its beautiful warm stone architecture it is well worth popping on your to do list.  Don’t make the mistake of thinking this place is too rural or down to earth though as I said it attracts a more elite cruiser and plenty of the yacht jet set so it is a very chic destination which has attracted artists, celebrities, actors and musicians for many years.

Santorini

This stunning Crescent Shaped Greek Island, surrounds a beautiful lagoon with breath taking Cliff top views and is a must on any cruise itinerary. It never fails to impress with its whitewashed buildings and blue domes and shutters which stand out against a backdrop of dramatic cliffs and azure blue seas.  In the summer months this island is another glamorous destination with some lots of little boutiques and galleries but more importantly some fantastic restaurants with fabulous cuisine and excellent wines. The nightlife is also very good depending on whether your cruise itinerary allows you to sample this.
