‘Strictly Come Cruising’ for P&O

Last weekend we saw the final of television series Strictly Come Dancing, in which Caroline Flack and her professional dance partner Pasha Kovalev were crowned the worthy winners. So to commemorate the close of another wonderful series, P&O Cruises has announced the line-up for its popular Strictly-themed cruises. Taking place next year, the cruise line has dedicated four cruises to the television series after collaborating with BBC Worldwide. Each cruise will feature four of the show’s favourite professional dancers: Karen Hauer, Kevin Clifton, Kristina Rihanoff and of course, series winner Pasha Kovalev. Passengers will be given the opportunity to meet the professionals and learn some moves during the exciting dance classes. A guest judge and a special celebrity guest will also be on board each cruise to make for a truly memorable Strictly Come Dancing experience. Personal interviews, photos and meet and greet sessions will take place to give passengers the chance to get up close to their favourite stars. So make sure you have your camera at the ready to take that all-important selfie! The stars will be performing special dance routines produced by BBC Worldwide, with glitzy costumes and dresses supplied by official designers DanceSport International. Passengers will have the chance to purchase a costume of their own, as each piece will be modelled in an on-board fashion show after the live performances. Not only this, but...

Sneak Preview Of P&O Advert

Ahead of the launch of its new vessel Britannia, P&O Cruises has released its latest advertising campaign, fronted by celebrity comedian Rob Brydon. The multimillion-pound wave campaign forms part of the line’s plan to create a new brand identity as it seeks to set itself apart from other cruise line competitors. In March next year, P&O Britannia will take to the seas, with the £500 million, 3,600-berth vessel in the running to be the line’s most high-profile. The television ad’s theme is the ‘Britishness of the holiday’ and will air during Coronation Street on Christmas Day. It is hoped that it will help to attract more non-cruisers by portraying a cruise holiday through the eyes of ‘newcomer’ Brydon. Speaking to Travel Weekly UK, Christopher Edgington – marketing director of P&O Cruises – admitted that the brand has not always differentiated itself from other lines in the past. Edgington said: “Our campaign is timed to put cruising on the national holiday map because 1.7 million people have cruised in the past year and it’s time for us as an industry, and for us as Britain’s favourite cruise line, to take the lead. “Rob Brydon was the obvious choice to front the campaign as he is well-loved with a great sense of humour and it is easy for potential customers to imagine themselves in his shoes. With this campaign we aim...

All aboard the new cruise ships in Liverpool

As 2014 draws to a close, the Liverpool cruise terminal is preparing for a busy year ahead, with the addition of 54 new cruise ships. Many of these will include new vessels and cruise liners that will first take to the waters along the Mersey to the historic port. The main highlight of the season will be two events to commemorate Cunard Cruise Line’s 175th anniversary. Cunard’s first ever ship, Britannia, set sail 175 years ago and headed to America. Since then, the cruise line has become renowned for its luxury cruising experiences and has built up a reputable fanbase among frequent passengers and newcomers alike. On May 25th 2015, the Cunard fleet will arrive on the Mersey, creating a much anticipated Three Queens spectacle that is sure to go down in maritime history. The second event is set to take place on July 4th 2015, which will see the Cunard flagship Queen Mary Two return to Liverpool to mark Britannia’s departure exactly 175 years earlier. A series of events will also be held across the city to celebrate the excitement of the cruise industry and how Liverpool has contributed to popularising cruise travel across the globe. The introduction of the 54 ships is expected to bring more than 80,000 international visitors to the city. Among the large cruise liners making their debut on the Mersey in 2015 are...

P&O Britannia offers hassle-free check-in

If you’re a frequent holiday-goer, you’ll most likely have encountered a stressful check-in experience at some point during your travels. Us Brits are well-known for our orderly way of queueing, but when you’re all set for your holiday, the last thing you want is for problems to arise before you’ve even set foot on the plane or cruise ship. However, if you have plans to sail with P&O Britannia next year, you’re in luck because checking in has been made easier. The vessel will be departing from Southampton’s Mayflower cruise terminal, which is currently undergoing a major refurbishment, thanks to a £6 million investment from the Associated British Ports. Improvements are being made to the check-in, departure, security, drop-off and pick-up areas, meaning a more speedy check-in service can be expected following the completion of the project. Not only will this benefit P&O Britannia and its passengers, but it will also serve other cruise ships that are ready to take on board new travellers. P&O Britannia is a new addition to the cruise line’s vessels and cost £500 million to build. It is the first ship in Britain to feature its own cookery school, which will be run by celebrity chef James Martin. Steven Young, port services and government affairs director of Carnival Cruise Lines (owner of P&O Cruises), said: “Cruising out of Southampton forms the core part of...
