Stockholm is positioning itself as a turnaround destination of choice for luxury cruise brands such as Regent Seven Seas, Silversea Cruises, Windstar Cruises Crystal Cruises and Oceania. That is according to Seatrade Insider, which reports that 274 cruise ships are expected to visit the city this year, carrying 470,000 passengers in total. Some 36 of these will use the ship as a turnaround port, the majority of which are from luxury cruise brands. Stockholm Visitors Board recently pointed out that the majority of passengers on ships calling at Stockholm will go ashore – 97 per cent compared just 87 per cent across the rest of Europe. Claudia Quas, project manager of Stockholm Cruise Network, told the website: “Thanks to its compact size, the city is the perfect cruise destination for day trippers as well as turnarounds.” In 2014, Stockholm is also expecting more UK passengers than it has ever received before, as Brits continue to be attracted to the allure of Scandinavian territories.
