Whether you’re getting ready for an exciting excursion, or preparing for an action-packed day at sea, being comfortable and cosy in your bed on a cruise ship can be make or break.

Cruise lines have recognised the importance of this essential factor for guests while on holiday, and many have taken time to design the very best mattresses, duvets and pillows to ensure that you’re relaxed and can enjoy a dreamy night’s sleep.

To give you the low-down, we’ve created our guide to the comfiest beds at sea.

Regent Seven Seas

Guests who book the Regent Suite on board Seven Seas Splendor™ can luxuriate in the ultimate in sleep opulence, enjoying a deeply relaxing sleep.

For example, the $200,000 Hästens Vividus custom handmade mattress is filled with horsetail hair, cushioning flax, slow-growing pine, superior wool and long-fibre cotton, providing you with a feeling of floating on air. These beds are the crème de la crème of the bed world, handcrafted over nine weeks by artisans in Sweden.

Then, there’s the bed linen. Made from batiste makò cotton and 100% virgin white down from Alaskan geese, this linen is created to keep bodies at the ideal temperature. What’s more, Regent guests can select their personal choice of linen from their prestigious Italian Bedding menu, with two categories to choose from: Bellino Fine Italian Linens, and the Med1994 Aria Line.

Not content with choices in bed linen, passengers can also select which type of pillow they wish to sleep upon. Choose between gel, water, memory foam and more!

You can also indulge in a Serene Spa & Wellness™ restorative sleep ritual treatment, which uses ingredients such as lavender and chamomile to support the most tranquil sleep experience.

Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises have leveraged the science behind sleep to offer the Princess Luxury Bed in every stateroom across their fleet, so every single guest can enjoy a delightfully dreamy night’s sleep.

Using the knowledge of a board-certified sleep expert and manufacturers producing some of the most comfortable hotel beds in the world, they have adopted technology in their mattresses designed for the utmost relaxation.

You can also wrap yourself up in a European-inspired duvet and 100% luxurious Jacquard-woven cotton linens for the comfiest night’s sleep on board- pure, blissful comfort in opulent style.

Norwegian Cruise Line

After working with the company for over 10 years, Norwegian Cruise Line has partnered with the Italian mattress manufacturer, Matermoll, to offer guests bedding from its Bliss Bed Collection.

Using innovative materials, such as WaterGel® and memory foams, these mattresses are proven to give optimal support and airflow. They also infuse their fabrics with the scent of chamomile to help soothe you to sleep.

In standard staterooms, guests can enjoy the Gold Model of beds, consisting of 400 individual springs to optimise your rest and recovery.

Guests staying in the cruise ships’ suites, however, can enjoy The Dreamy and Tranquillity models, using the company’s WaterGel® and memory foam to enhance your sleeping experience even further. Not only this, but suite guests can choose from a grand total of six different bed models in total, including outstanding features such as temperature regulation and even designated pillows for side sleepers.

Mattresses manufactured by Matermoll can also be found when sailing with selected Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas ships.

Celebrity Cruises

On board most of Celebrity Cruises’ fleet, you can enjoy their eXhale bedding program, which features the Cashmere Mattress, designed exclusively for Celebrity.

Also made by Italian manufacturers, Matermoll, these exclusive Cashmere Mattresses use natural materials and the latest mattress design technology: including their eco-friendly Bio-Green® and Breeze® reverse technology foams, along with a CertiPUR® Memory Layer, to create a healthy and refreshing sleep.

The bedding is made of extra-soft, 300 thread-count Egyptian cotton yarns and sateen fabric, designed to enable the highest level of comfort for all passengers on board.

Holland America

When enjoying a cruise holiday with Holland America Line, suite guests can enjoy their signature Mariner’s Dream™ beds, in king or queen-sized- topped with plush Euro-Top mattresses.

Manufactured by Sherwood Bedding Group, these mattresses include pre-compressed foams and shrink-resistant fibres to help resist body impressions and offer better comfort and support throughout the night.

So, if sleep is an important aspect of your cruise holiday, be sure to research the types of beds available in each cabin on your desired cruise line. This will mean that you can prioritise a restful night’s sleep, allowing you and your cruising companions to recharge and reset for more adventures the following day!
