Konningsdam in Southampton

It’s not often we get Holland American Line in Southampton, so we were very happy to go take a sneaky look at the Konningsdam, Mid cruise in Southampton last week.

As this was a port stop we could not see many cabins, we did get one of the ocean view ones empty, fairly roomy and a good size

This was a two berth, we also looked at another four berth, which was fab as it had two showers! two bathrooms , great for a family

There were two pools, one with a retractable roof, this was closed last week as the weather had not been great, so it forms a really large conservatory, very cosy.

The ship is 99,500 tonnes, passengers 2650 I thought this very generous and it felt very spacious inside, many sitting areas and bars to choose from.

Lunch was very nice, and if this was an indication of the food, we only ever get sampler menus, it will be of a very high standard, and delicious.

While we were all chatting, we agreed it was a similar feel to Fred Olsen, maybe on steroids, by this I mean the staff were all smiling and friendly, they had no idea who we were, so it came naturally, but just with the “new” ship feeling and of course much bigger. The reference to Fred Olsen is a compliment from me as I love them, this had the same old world sort of elegance that I enjoy, and not too modern

One of the treats on board, make your own wine !! Nice little expereince for a sea day maybe?

All in a nice day out of the office, I know this is one of the new additions to the fleet, but it certainly gave me a good idea of what Holland American can offer.
