I’m sure I am going mad!

For those that don’t know me, I am 31 years (going on 32), and as a child, I did play a lot of sports.  However the age old excuse, life got in the way, and so, as a consequence, from the age of 16/17 right up until I turned 27, I had done any sort of sport or even entertained the idea.  That was until one of my friends suggested I play rugby.  Which as most of you are aware I have been playing for the last 4 years, now I promised myself I would retire at the end of the season, as it takes me longer to recover from a match, but my heart just won;t let me give up.

So as a way of keeping what I have of a fitness level up (playing front row kind of gives it away), I decided to take part in a couple of 5k runs.  So, in 2018 I took part in The Race For Life Swansea 5k, however, like most things, it didn’t last long and I let my fitness slip, and I missed half of last season due to an injury.  Now don’t get me wrong my wife wasn’t too impressed with me taking part in a further season (I have had a few serious injuries) but agreed that if I keep my fitness up then I can play! LOL.

So I decided to give myself a new challenge, and do the Race For Life 2019 but do the 10k – so I trained and completed it.  But this time I have found myself continuing the running, even if it is just a mile a day, I am still doing it.  Now it turns out I am not doing it so I can play rugby, I actually quote enjoy just putting my headphones in and just shutting myself off for around 10 mins, and on my days off, I do like to get a 5k in or longer.

One day last week, something came over me, I saw an advert for the Swansea Bay 10k in September of this year – 2 x 10kms in one year, I must be going insane!  Now, this is more competitive than the Race For Life, as people are actually doing it to better times etc, and I found myself putting in my card details and hitting CONFIRM!  So there it is! I am now competing in the Swansea Bay 10k, and to be honest, it is a stunning route as well, all across Swansea Bay, down to the Mumbles and back.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am no running fanatic and I’m certainly no Mo Farah or Kelly Holmes, but something about running just makes it all worth it and not just for the money raised for charity.  It then got me thinking, those running fanatics, what would they do on a cruise?  Well, you will be glad to know that most cruise lines have a gym or fitness studios (with treadmills), or even running tracks around the top deck of the ship (Usually spanning a mile long), so certainly enough to keep even the keenest gym enthusiast entertained.

I will keep you posted regularly of my progress and of course, my results from the day!
