The Royal Wedding at Sea!

Now if you are an avid cruiser and a fan of the Royals – what better place to be than on one of Cunard’s ships as they will be going overboard in celebrating Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle.

Passengers on all 3 ships will have the opportunity to toast the happy couple whether they be on Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth or Queen Victoria. On the cruise line’s ships, passengers will be offered special parties and royal celebrations, including a screening of the Royal Wedding, an afternoon tea party, themed cocktails, a commemorative dinner with keepsake menus, a wedding cake modelled after the bride and groom’s and champagne at dinner.

Cunard has a long history with the royal family, as Queen Elizabeth II attended her first event hosted by the cruise line in 1938 when she was only 12 years old. In the years since, the Queen has launched and named all the Cunard ships.

I sailed on Queen Mary to Brugges for 3 nights – one of her mini cruises or taster cruise as some people like to call them. We had always wanted to go to the Christmas market in Brugges and as it was also my wife’s birthday I decided to kill to birds with one stone. On arrival, we were met in true Cunard style with Champagne and flowers in the cabin and a very special birthday card from the captain. My wife and her 2 girlfriends spent a sea day in the Spa, an experience she rates as one of the best with a thalassotherapy pool and relaxing loungers with sea views.

It was just enough time to get the feel of Cunard, explore the ship and decide if this is my type of cruise holiday. We would only do Cunard as a couple or with friends as they are not really child-friendly. We did feel very welcome onboard and I think they call it the White Star Service – we were definitely in the hands of the most professional crew.
