Dining Options on Independence of the Seas.

From bouncing on the Sky Pad, and zooming down high-speed slides, to racing against the clock in the escape room and plenty of tasty food too, it’s time for me to review the food options on Royal Caribbean’s newly revamped ship, Independence of the Seas.

The food is incredible and options onboard include Independence of the Seas’ Main Dining Rooms and the buffet which is known as the Windjammer Cafe. This buffet area boasts an array of international cuisine including sushi, pizza, pasta, salad, sandwiches and burgers. There are sinks for washing your hands when you walk in, and two of the speciality dining restaurants can be accessed just before you enter the main section of Windjammer Market Place. Seating stretches all the way round to the back of the ship.

Alternative Dining, also,  known as speciality dining where a small surcharge is charged include restaurants such as Chops Grille, Giovanni’s Table, Izumi Sushi & Hibachi, Johnny Rockets – American-style diner on Deck 12, which opens from noon until midnight, Fish & Ships and Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade. This is one of the biggest new additions on board Independence of the Seas. This vibrant American style sports bar serves bar snacks, craft beer and cocktails. Here are some examples of the snacks: popcorn shrimp, sliders, chicken wings and the Playmaker Burger.

Our favourite which comes highly recommended is the trendy Hibachi restaurant on Deck 4 – Izummi.  Expect lots of theatrics from the chefs as guests dine together in raised seating areas. You can enjoy dishes such as beef or chicken Teppanyaki, sushi and mochi ice cream.

On the pool deck, you can find The Lido Buffet & Pool Area Dining and the big highlight, especially for the children, is that there is free ice cream on tap around the pool – the dream!
In-Between Meals for those that cannot resist the temptation, you will find Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Sugar Beach which both require a surcharge.

Cafe Promenade is in the middle of the ship on the promenade deck. Open 24-hours a day, this café offers coffee, tea, sandwiches and sweet items. Food and basic coffee and tea are complimentary but there is a charge for speciality items. Also situated along the Royal Promenade is Sorrento’s, this is the place to go for antipasti, paninis, delicious desserts and, of course, pizza. It’s open until 3.00am and can be enjoyed whatever the weather and there is no charge for the food.

In conclusion, I thought I would just add that there is a Gym on board as well – just in case you may have overindulged.
