At Last! – Some Good News For Liverpool

So at last some good news, not just for the city of Liverpool and the North West of England but for the surrounding areas too. It has been announced that Liverpool City Council are looking to transform a former jetty into a  new ultra-modern cruise terminal which could handle 3,600 passengers per day.

To me I think is great news because not only is Liverpool only forty-five minutes away, but It breaks the monopoly of Southampton and all the other ports on the south coast getting the majority of sailings from the UK. I have many customers in the North West, North East, Yorkshire, Scotland and the Midlands and not only is it the long distance that has to be travelled there and back to the south coast it’s the all the extra cost.

Can you believe it is nearly 50 years since Liverpool with it’s rich heritage and maritime history actually did regular transatlantic voyages. Liverpool is a fantastic city to visit, you have the birthplace of the Beatles and the famous Cavern Club on Matthew Street. You have Liverpool and Everton football clubs along with all the shops and night-life in this vibrant and cultural City.

You only had to see the success of the Three Queens in May last year in Liverpool to celebrate Cunard’s 175th anniversary to see how cruising and Liverpool fit together. I know the cost of the cruise terminal will be very expensive and will cost tens of millions of pounds, but I feel it would be a success. Not only will you have existing customers going on more cruises as the port is easier to get to but you have a lot more new to cruise who will go from Liverpool as they do not want to do the 10 to 12 round trip journey to Southampton.
