Don’t worry, be appy.

Modern cruise ships now routinely showcase ever more mind boggling technical innovations on a massive scale, while continually pushing the boundaries of what we thought even possible at sea. So when I read an article about the new Costa Cruises app, while not ground breaking in itself, I felt such a simple yet effective idea was worth a mention.

How many times while abroad on holiday or on a cruise does your smart phone stay safely tucked away in the safe for days at a time? If you are anything like me usually more often than not, the cost of staying connected abroad can sometimes be astronomical if you’re not careful. This doesn’t help when you’ve split from your friends and urgently need to reconvene for that essential drink or you require a quick text to confirm dinner plans.

Well, Costa Cruises have solved the problem with the launch of the new MyCosta Mobile app.

This a free app for smartphones and tablets that offers Costa guests free and unlimited minutes and texts on board the 14 ships in the fleet when connected to the WiFi network. All you need to do is simply download MyCosta Mobile from the App Store or Google Play Store and then connect to the ship’s WiFi network once on board.

This allows guests to socialise with each other by calling or texting whenever they like, and the app can also be used to contact a cabin or any of the numerous shipboard amenities such as the restaurants, Spa, tour office and much more.

The app comes in six different languages; Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese and has been created ‘to make holidays with Costa Cruises even more relaxing while facilitating communication, socialising and interaction both with other guests and with the facilities and services on board’.

Nice little touch don’t you think?
