Love the great outdoors?? Then an Alaskan cruise is for you!

Ever dreamed of a magical Alaskan cruise? I have, and with everything Alaska has to offer it would be hard not to.

Princess Cruises who constantly rate as amongst the best for operating in Alaska offer some amazing packages along with land tours of Canada and Alaska. Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Holland America Line are also great choices for this part of the world. You could be forgiven for thinking that an Alaskan cruise is just to sail through the glaciers…..how wrong one can be.

You can start your cruise with a land tour in the Canadian Rockies and in particular the Rocky Mountaineer train journey.  Here you can travel through some of the most spectacular scenery Canada has to offer. Begin in Lake Louise at one of the Fairmont hotels Chateau Lake Louise,

Having been to this hotel, I can highly recommend it. The other Fairmont being the Banff Springs which again is a highlight, the Banff Springs is the hotel which inspired Steven King to write “The Shining”. There is an eerie beauty to it.  The Rocky Mountaineer will then carry you through to Vancouver to pick up your Alaskan cruise.

There are a whole host of ships to choose from so there will be no problem finding the right ship for you at the right budget.

The Alaskan cruise itself will be one of the most memorable journeys you may ever take.

Sail through Glacier Bay and The Inside Passage. Visit the capital Juneau and Ketchikan. But what can you do in Alaska?? With the Alaskan wilderness at your feet the list is endless.

In Denali National Park you can take a flightseeing tour to Mckinley Glacier, go white water rafting or hiking, quad biking or take a jeep adventure. The Alaskan wildlife is also some of the most grand and majestic you will ever see. To name but a few…… brown and black bears, whales orca, humpback and buluga, sealions and otters, and the majestic Bald Eagle. Wild Elk and wolves, and the lovable husky dog who will be pleased to take you on a sled ride.  And if that is not adventure enough you can rock climb or go zip-lining.

But wilderness, wildlife and glaciers is still not all that Alaska has to offer. Alaska is stooped in history. From the Gold rush of 1896 the Yukon, Klondike, Dawsons city and Skagway have become authentic traditional frontier towns. You’ll feel the heartache and dreams of those who fought their way accross the Yukon and Chilkoot pass in a bid to become wealthy.

If you have any tips or suggestions for Alaska, please comment, I would love to hear them.
