Scattered here, scattered there……….

funeral-at-seaEver thought about what may happen to your bits when you leave this wonderful world. Think no further, if you are an avid cruiser and would like your spirit to reach far and wide, why not think about having your ashes scattered at sea.

Speaking to one of my friends last week, she told me she still had her mom in the loft, come to think about it our beloved border collie dogs are in the cupboard under the stairs. I’m definitely in favour of having my ashes scatted somewhere that I loved and not just popped in a pot.

Senior cruise director for Carnival John Heald recently advised that the decision to have your loved one scattered at sea is increasing at a rapid rate, on average they are holding over 200 ceremonies each year.

The cruise line organise the required paperwork, and a member of the staff helps organise the ceremony. When it’s finished, the family member is given a letter by the captain, signed by him, with the coordinates of the longitude and latitude of the ship’s position where the ashes are scattered.

I could not think of a better place to scatter a loved one’s ashes; I’ve also had a few guests who have chosen this option over the years.

I think it’s a great idea.
