Baby blues when it comes to cruise

Whilst having a lazy sofa morning on my day off I happened to catch ‘Rip of Britain’ on BBC1, it featured passengers holiday disasters and all the hidden extras that people are not always aware about when they book their holiday. Quite a large focus of the program featured cruise holidays so I thought this will be worth the watch.

The first interview featured a couple who had recently had a baby; the mother had cruised more than 20 times and even got married on board Royal Caribbean, but has vowed never to cruise again. Whilst she was expecting her first child she looked into booking their first family holiday for when the child would be 6 months old, she was utterly shocked to find that the price they would have to pay to take their new arrival on board would be the same if they were taking a teenager or even an extra adult.

I must admit I do get embarrassed when quoting cruise holidays for families who are travelling with babies, how do I  justify charging £1000 for a 9 month old baby who will in no way utilise a fraction of the facilities on-board, let alone eat a single mouthful of food. I had to agree with every word this lady said and can fully understand why she has turned her back on cruising.

Surely you would think that cruise lines would offer a lower reduced price for infants, don’t get me wrong there are some lines such as MSC which offer free kids places and certain lines do offer the odd promotion from time to time, but I really do think the big boys need to reconsider their pricing structures when it comes to infant prices. Let’s face it these babies are the cruisers of the future…..

What do you think, are these prices fare?
