A rare species or spice of life?

Ardent cruisers who have been there, seen that and done most things as far as cruising is concerned, are now opting for more and more adventurous destinations to add to their cruise CV.  Such passengers are now rubbing shoulders with not only the rich and famous, but also, some of the worlds most renowned Ornithologists and Anthropologists. For with the increasing popularity of cruising has come the opportunity to travel to some of the most exciting and interesting places on earth, as cruise lines extend their reach and new providers enter the cruise market place.

River cruising which initially provided such staples as European rivers and sailings into the heart of the Russian Federation are now competing with new kids on the block, offering trips along the Mekong delta from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, with Viking River Cruises as an example.

As for far-off places, or should I say; places that provide sites of significant interest, you can now sail to the Galapagos islands and see first-hand the Darwinian wonders that inspired “Origin of the Species”.

The Galapagos was home to the only surviving giant Pinta tortoise, ‘Lonesome George’.

Or explore the Antarctic Peninsula where Scott first stepped out onto the ice for his doomed adventure into the unknown, as he raced against Norwegian adventurer Roald Amundson.

In short; cruising can be anything you want it to be, lazing around the sun deck between ports across the Mediterranean, or expanding your own personal horizons, as you follow in the footsteps of legendary adventurers, or explore the ports along the spice routes from the eastern coasts of Africa to the far-east.  The only limit would seem to be your own imagination!

Do you have such a desire for adventure?

Where would you start?
