Turkey decide to make their visas online only

Turkish visa’s never really seemed to be too much of an inconvenience.  I have been on holidays plenty of times to Turkey and all you had to do was queue up and hand a £10 note over the counter, get stamped and move on.

This is all set to change in the near future with Turkey announcing that Turkish visa applications will be online only.

The change will come into force on 10th April 2014.  The cost of obtaining the visa online (through the correct site) will be $20USD for a UK or RIO passport holder.

Here are some extra important things to know about the new Turkish visa.

  • Cruise guest that will be arriving to Turkey on a ship will not need a visa as long as their stay is no longer than 72 hours and they will not be leaving the city/region in which they are docked at.
  • Any cruise or holiday makers that are flying into Turkey, regardless if time in Turkey will need to have a visa.
  • Any cruisers that are embarking or dis-embarking their cruise in Turkey (rather than just a stop) will need a visa regardless whether they have flown in or not.
  • The correct site to obtain the visa is https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ any other site is not the official one and may overcharge you for the service at best.
  • If a visa is required it must be purchased in advance of leaving home for holiday
