An on-board casino gambling smartphone app, is this taking things too far ?

The gambling laws here in the UK seem to have got more and more relaxed in recent years.  You can now waltz into a casino without having a membership and there are constant adverts for online gambling and gambling apps.  I am sick and tired of it all to be honest.

Casinos have always been popular on cruise ships, especially American ones.  I understand that the gambling laws in a lot of American states are stricter than ours and many Americans like to make the most of the more relaxed gambling laws whilst out at sea.

I quite like the big casinos at sea and although I don’t really play in them I appreciate that a lot of people want to, and why not, it is their money after all.  Most people can just have a few games and a gamble for a bit of fun and within their personal limits.

I have just read though about Celebrity Cruises bringing a new “first at sea” a smartphone application that they have developed with Cantor gaming.  I believe the app that can run on IOS or Android devices will allow passengers to gamble virtually on a selection of games linked to their on-board account enabling them to gamble from anywhere on the ship.

I understand that people enjoy going to the casino and having a gamble within the atmosphere of the ships casino.  I think that this is going a bit too far though personally.  I think that it encourages irresponsible gambling.  I understand that Celebrity Cruises as a business want to maximize revenue from gamblers but I don’t think this is a good move.

What do you think, do you think that all of these extra gambling options are a good thing for people ?  Do you think that people should make their own mind up and gamble responsibly or do you think that this sort of thing is just exploiting certain people who already gamble too much already ?
