What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen at sea?

Over the years cruise lines have come up with the most weird yet wonderful amenities to have on a Cruise Ship. I guess they have to do something a bit different to keep up with other cruise lines or to top their last new Ship. The most bizarre I’ve heard yet is Virgin Voyages having a tattoo studio. I still think the most fascinating is the Bionic bar tenders when i was on board the Anthem.

What’s the most strange or fascinating amenity you have come across from your holidays? Let’s take a look at a few some of you may have already seen or heard of.

Submarine on Crystal Cruises – Large enough for two guests and the pilot to travel down nearly 1000 ft. It is agile enough to allow viewing of whatever ocean treasures await below, from colorful coral reefs to shipwrecks.

Robot bartenders on Royal Caribbean International – My favorite. The bionic bar where mixology meets technology. Can be found on Quantum class ships as well as Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas.

Racetrack on Norwegian Cruise Line – Got a need for speed? Norwegian answers the call with the largest racetrack at sea aboard its new Norwegian Bliss. The open-air, 1,000-foot-long track offers great views out over port and sea, that is if you manage to catch them while reaching speeds of up to 30 mph.

Snow Grotto on Viking – The Snow Grotto pays tribute to the Viking Ocean Line’s Nordic heritage and Scandinavian sensibility. Designed to invigorate and stimulate the circulatory system of guests who don’t mind a chill, the small, snow-covered room pipes in cold air as snowflakes fall from the ceiling. Don’t worry the sauna is close by.

Underwater lounge on Ponant – This one looks quite cool. Two large glass portholes will offer a window out onto the underwater world, further augmented by digital screens projecting live images from a trio of underwater cameras, as well as a sound system streaming in sub-aquatic hydrophone-captured sounds.

Skydiving simulator on Royal Caribbean International – I did this on the Anthem it’s pretty cool. Adrenaline-seekers can get a taste of simulated skydiving on an open-air deck, giving you stunning sea views as you spread your “wings” and experience what it’s like to float on air in the 23-foot-high wind tunnel.

I’m sure there’s a lot more to come over the years with more ships coming out and Cruise Lines trying to come up with Industry Firsts.

Have you got a favorite one so far? Leave me a comment i’d love to hear from you.
