St Peter Port

Me and Jon have just got back from a lovely weekend on board the Queen Elizabeth, a very pleasant surprise for both of us. I will talk more about the ship on my next blog but for this week i wanted to talk about about our visit to Guernsey.

I’ll start by showing you our view from the balcony when we got up Sunday morning.

In the end we had decided to book an excursion as we are always worried that we are missing out on interesting information. We weren’t too organised this time round so ended up booking the excursion on board. It was a hard decision but we decided to book the Walking Tour and Afternoon Tea. This was just under 3 hours and cost $56 per person.

As the Tour didn’t start while 1 we decided to get off the ship for a few hours before and have a walk round then come back to the pier for the meeting point of the Tour.

We were glad we did this as it gave us chance for a bit of lunch, have a look around then stroll back to the meeting point ready and raring to go.

This was the first time we had used a tender in a Port. We had been advised to allow around 45 mins to get the tender and arrive into the pier. To get the tender we needed a pass which was available in the Queens Room on board the ship. It was very busy but we were probably waiting about 15-20 mins before our number was called and we could board the tender. You do have to do a step test before you can be given a pass. The tenders take about 100 people.

Once you are on the Island it seems very easy to get around the Island depending what you want from your visit There was a road train from the pier. This costs £6pp and took about 45 mins. It visits many of the major attractions.

Castle Cornet was about 15 mins walk and the Aquarium was about 18 mins walk. The main shopping streets can be reached in about 5 -10 mins walk.

Many shops are closed on a Sunday but some do choose to open. We could still get some souvenirs and some lunch.

I won’t spoil much about the Walking Tour but we did find it very interesting and the view points up at Candie Gardens were stunning. The afternoon Tea was gorgeous and the scones were some of the best i’ve tasted. I really do like my afternoon Tea’s.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the history behind a town and a cracking scone.

Have you been to Guernsey? What did you get up to when you were there?

More details to follow on the Queen Elizabeth. Until Next time.
