Port Everglades Gets A Makeover

Cruise Terminal 2 Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale has just received a multi million dollar upgrade and it’s especially for Princess Cruises. This upgrade will help guests on their Ocean Medallion cruise link up to Princess Cruises when they arrive at the Port.

If you aren’t familiar with Ocean Medallion it is available on selected ships and selected sailings with Princess Cruises. It is a quarter sized token which can work on a wristband, pendant, a clip or just put it in your pocket. The token allows guests to access their cabin and other experiences on board the cruise ship. You can use it on touch screens throughout the ship, tv in your cabin and even your mobile device. Guests can use it to navigate their way around the ship and even order a drink.

When guests walk through the Port everglades terminal their token will connect with the network and allow for a more personalised boarding process with the ability to create an avatar called an Ocean Tagalong. Ones guests have cleared security the Tagalong will appear on a giant LED screen and you can choose from a sea turtle, sea horse or a butterfly fish. The Terminal also features the new MedallionNet, high-speed Wi-Fi which cruisers can use while waiting to board.

And if there’s time to catch a show, guests can now head to the cinema experience at Ocean View Theatre.

There are more interactive experiences that include using the Ocean Tagalong to direct their avatars through a series of screens, moving their arms and hands to control its swimming motions and directions.

The first ship due to depart the Terminal will be Regal Princess, with 6 more Princess ships due to receive the Ocean Medallion updates.

How do you feel about these changes? Other cruise lines are using similar technology, Is it about time Princess did the same? Let us know your thoughts.
