I can definitely see the attraction

If you managed to catch my last blog you will know me and Jonathan were off to Singapore to watch the F1 race. So many customers had told me ‘You will love Singapore’. They weren’t wrong. And i actually really enjoyed the race which was surprising.

We flew with Etihad to Singapore. Never flown with Etihad before and i was really impressed. The seats were comfy and quite roomy. Great choice of films and very nice meals on the plane. We had a stop at Abu Dhabi and there airport is beautiful. On the flight back home i was submitted to have my hand luggage searched when checking in at the gate for our connecting flight. It didn’t surprise me as heard they are very strict with drugs.

Our hotel in Singapore was The Clover 5 Hong Kong Street. There are a lot of Clover hotels in Singapore and i chose this as it was a very reasonable price considering Grand Prix was on. Reviews seemed fine and it was in the Clarke Quay area which i preferred. The reception staff were very accommodating and managed to move the room around for us so we could check in early and have a sleep before going out to the race as we had no sleep on the plane. Our room was lovely. It was a small room as it is a boutique hotel. Rain shower cubicle. A cubicle for the toilet and sink area. The bed was very comfortable. It was next to the window so i was the one climbing in at the side or foot of the bed. All in all a very nice stay. Breakfast was unusual. They have a very small eating area. They had cereal, toast, eggs, sausage, tea and coffee. As i expected they also served noodles and vegetables. This is very typical in Asia as many have their main meal for breakfast and save the cereals for the evening.

The area was fantastic. Very close to Chinatown and many shopping malls. We had two transport links within 5-10 mins walk. We easily walked to the Marina Bay F1 circuit within 15 mins or so depending which way we chose to walk. It was nice walking along the riverside. This seemed a great area for a night out or a meal.

We both managed to get some sight seeing done before the races. Saturday we had booked to do a DUCKTour. This was good fun and the guide was very informative.

On the Sunday we payed a visit to Gardens by the Bay. I really wanted to do this and it didn’t disappoint. It was absolutely stunning and so peaceful. And luckily air conditioned as it was so hot. They recommend at least 4 hours here but you could easily cover it over a day as it is huge. There are two domes which cost $14 each and about an hour in each Dome should be enough. If you don’t go in the Domes you can just wander around the Gardens. We also did The Skywalk and the views were beautiful.

On the Monday we visited Universal Studios. I bought the tickets before we went to save queuing. you can use the MTR to get here as it is on Sentosa Island. However we were using their UBER equivalent GRAB a lot as they were very cheap and really reliable. After visiting Sentosa to get to Universal we noticed we could easily spend a few days there as it’s huge resort with Casino’s, shopping malls, aqua parks and more. Will remember this for next time.

Universal was a lot of fun to say they don’t have many thrill rides. We had our tea at the Hard Rock Cafe, we always visit Hard Rock if there is one and i have to get a T shirt.

Tune in next time where i’ll cover more on the race.

  1. We went to Singapore in Feb/March this year, stayed 2 nights before embarking on our 10 night Indonesia Malaysia cruise.
I totally agree, if you have never been to Singapore before then you must go. Wish we had longer time there as there is so much to see and do. Beautifully clean city, locals very friendly, food yummy. I would love to go back but for us, no longer spring chickens!, the long haul flight has put me off going back, unless we could afford business class but sadly not the case. It was a bucket list cruise which will be fondly remembered.
