What A Season!

Now for those that regularly read my blog, you may remember that back in January, I wrote about us Morriston Ladies winning Division 3 undefeated, and due to all that hard work we were promoted up to Division 2A.  So as promised, this is a follow on from that post, since it was our last league game of the season yesterday – bit early to finish the season you say, well read on to find out why!

So, we started the second half of the season, excited that we would be facing a new challenge and much tougher teams than we had already faced.  The second half of the season took us until the end of January to actually play our first game since December, due to weather, and other reasons.  Our first game was supposed to be against Croesyceillog, however reasons unforeseen by them, couldn’t play the game.  So we had to wait until the 28th January 2018 to play our first game against Lampeter, and this  was a tough one to take and that finished 12-0 – our first loss of the season to date.  And that gave us a kick up the rear end and taught us to remember why we were promoted in the first place.

We then took on Taffs Well, who we played in the 2016-2017 season, and they got promoted by finishing 3rd so we knew what to expect, but what we had to remember was that we had to go in with the mentality that we had never played them before, and that we were a completely different team from the previous season.  We again came out victors 17-5.

However the season took a bit of a turn when Croesyceillog had to withdraw from the league (we look forward to seeing them again in the future).  So this meant we were only a couple of points behind Lampeter.  So it meant that the return fixture against Taffs Well needed the must needed Bonus Point win (4 tries) to potentially tie with Lampeter at the top of the league, and again our grit and desire showed through once again we won the game 19-7, disappointingly not getting the Bonus Point so it meant Lampeter had won the league if they beat Taffs Well the following week, which the duly did and became league champions.

So it came to game day yesterday, us playing at home, with an undefeated home record to protect and a champions party to ruin (they were still undefeated).  Another tough game, but we came out victorious 22-21.  It meant we finished the league a reputable 2nd place and get to keep our undefeated at home record.

I am so proud of this team, considering at the start of this season, we had many new faces who had never picked up a ball before, and have just slotted in just perfectly.  Now it is time for our Cup game against Nelson.  Now this Nelson teak beat us in pre-season quite impressively, but again we will do what we do every week and show them that we are a different team to what they have played against before, and hopefully progress through the cup.  If not, then it will be friendlies for the remainder of the season and then a short break, then straight back to it for pre-season and then we go again.

Until next time, I will leave you with a link to our website to browse through some cruises, what with the Rugby World Cup being held in Japan, I thought I would direct you to our Japanese itineraries.
