Home Or Away?

Not to be confused with the Australian soap!

I have recently had a couple of days in the Lake District, the weather (for a change) was glorious and as I sat enjoying the peace and beautiful countryside I did wonder why do we Brits go abroad when we have such a wonderful country to explore?  I guess the answer has to be the weather then what would you do if it is raining?  So, why not try a Princess cruise around the British isles?

Sail from Southampton and travel to Guernsey, Cork, Dublin, Liverpool, Belfast, Glasgow, Invergordon, Edinburgh, then throw in a bit of French flair in Le Havre before you return back to Southampton 12 days later.

You may think you know a lot about the country you live in.  Here are some interesting facts on some of these destinations.

Invergordon is well known for it’s mutiny in 1931.  Guernsey is British but not UK. European but not EU. Did you know that the first Ford factory built outside of America was in Cork?  The city of Liverpool was created in 1207 by King John and was once the second city of the British empire? Or the first international football game was played in Partick, not far from Glasgow? Edinburgh was the first city in the world to have it’s own fire brigade? Finally, Oscar Wilde thought there was only one beautiful building in Belfast – that is now home to Marks & Spencer!

In 2015 the Royal Princess will be sailing to all these destinations.  If the excursions do not appeal to you then how about life on board, with activities such as

Movies under the stars, or the new sea walk with views 128 feet straight down (yikes!)

or there is the casino, Club 6 dance club, theatres with top class shows, comedy nights – the list is endless!

Even if the UK weather can be pants at times, perhaps now is the time to explore this diverse country of ours?  What do you think?
