Cruising in 2024

This week I read in the Daily Mail of a recent report by Skyscanner, who were defining how our holidays will be in 2024.  They are predicting that the dizzy heights of the earth’s orbit and the worlds oceans will become holiday destinations over the next decade.

Journeys to the bottom of the sea will be much more mainstream and the race for space will take travellers to earth’s low orbit allowing them to experience the curvature of the globe from ultra high altitude. Technology will be more exciting, people now talk about the possibility of a regular traveller flying from London to Sydney in only two and a half hours! Now that is hard to believe!

There are already plans to have underwater hotels, such as in Dubai.  The Atlantis hotel in Dubai actually has a suite of rooms underneath the aquarium  – could this be the future of hotels?

Reading about all these exciting developments made me think about what is the future of cruising?  Royal Caribbean are already way ahead of other cruise companies with cutting edge technology and entertainment. You just need to look at the robotic arms serving you a drink of your choice, or the inside cabins with a virtual balcony – a high definition screen providing real time views of the ocean.

So what could be planned for cruising in 2024?  It is a bit mind blowing really. I thought of  glass viewing platforms under the water, more specialized cruising themes such as extreme adventure, snorkelling/diving, new destinations to any far flung place in the world we haven’t  yet seen! Artificial beaches on board, sea level promenades, outside lifts, I guess the list is endless.

It would be great to know what your ideas would be, no matter how silly you may think they are.  I bet you that in 2024 they will be on their way to becoming reality!
