Mini Cruise- Independence of the Seas – Dining & Entertainment

Hi again. My mini-break on Independence seems like such a long time ago now, (could do with another refresher!) What I wanted to talk about now was the dining & entertainment I experienced aboard the fantastic Independence of the Seas. As you may know from my previous blog, I mentioned that the first day was fantastic in Southampton. The sun was shining and the ship was full of very excited guests. I had purchased the drinks package before I cruised. It was great value for money, even though I am not the biggest drinker even just ‘sampling’ a few of the cocktails, made it worthwhile. The bars on the day of departure around deck 11 were very busy, but I just wanted to point out the service was great. Staff walked around the deck to take orders and bring the drinks to you, which saved being stuck in queues at the bars.

I wanted to say that the Windjammer on deck 11 was great, there is so much choice and personally, I really enjoyed the food. one of my customers I had spoken to who had also been on the ship and was a fussier eater than myself (not really difficult as I eat everything!!) and they also found the Windjammer a great choice. Again I could not fault the staff in here, friendly and efficient.

We ate pizza in Sorrento’s on the Royal Promenade, on the first afternoon … was it good? Well, my only comment is we were back for more after our evening out and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Another thing about late night eating is being on a ship it was very sociable and we met lots of different people in a comfortable atmosphere.

Before the late night eating we ate in the main dining room, staff were very friendly and the food was great. The menu was different on both nights and I was really impressed. They have a Premium Selection and they are available at a small cover charge, examples of this are the Whole Maine Lobster $29.95, Chops Grille Filet Mignon $14.95 & Surf & Turf $34.95.

As well as the amazing food on board the entertainment was great. We had the early 6 pm sitting which left us the evening free to enjoy the various bars and entertainment. I highly recommend the Ice Show in Studio B, professional ice skaters put on a great show, Its free, no tickets required just be there at the door for Show Time and you will get a seat.

The shows in the main theatre area also get full so arrive early to avoid being unable to get a seat. As well as the Ice show we watched the Take That Experience, the atmosphere was great, you just can’t help singing along with Gary at times, can you ?…

The show on board was Grease The Musical, now I may be a bit biased as it’s my all time favourite but I thought it was one of the best shows I have seen at sea. The theatre was full and I would thoroughly recommend.

My Break On Independence was worth every penny, friendly staff, great service and a happy atmosphere. It was full of laughs with new friends and new memories I can take away with me…. until the next time 😉
