Finally .. P&O are stopping charging gratuities from May 2019

P&O cruises are to scrap the automatic gratuities ‘tips’ from May 2019. From May 2019 (cruises A911, B912, E911/A, J903, N910, R907, X907 and all thereafter) the discretionary daily Service Charge on board will be removed currently.

P&O’s recommended daily charge is £7 per person per day. At the beginning of this year, they had raised the amount from £6 to £7, this has come as welcome news to  P&O Cruise passengers.

P&O are saying that fares will not be affected from the decision to remove the gratuities and they are focussed on providing their guests with a relaxing experience and they say by removing the discretionary daily service charge it will mean passengers have one less thing to worry about.

It does make me wonder if they will increase the pay for their staff as the tips seem to be a big contributing factor to their pay. This is a big move from the British favourite and from reading a lot of reviews it seems that people are all for it.

I think this is just the beginning for Cruise Lines, it will be interesting to see if the American lines follow suit.

What do you think? Is it a good idea, will this make your experience a more enjoyable one? Personally, I like it to be the price you see is the price you pay, therefore there is nothing to worry about other than enjoying my cruise.
