Celebrity Cruises has the ‘Edge’..

This weekend has been an exciting one for Celebrity Cruises with the first sailing on their new ship Celebrity Edge. Sailing from Fort Lauderdale it will begin a 3-night voyage around the Bahamas.

Celebrity Edge looks exciting and a breath of fresh air. Its the first in an innovative new series of ships with Celebrity, namely the Edge Class.

The design of this ship sees something completely different in the cruise industry, the architecture is definitely ahead of the rest.

Outward facing cabins that are wall to wall, floor to ceiling glass. The edge stateroom with Infinite verandah is a new idea that the balcony will be within the main cabin area. Bi-fold doors will make this possible by either being completely closed to give the usual cabin/ balcony feeling or leave them open to make a large space, larger than normal balconies. The glass walls at the end of the cabin will also slide down to create a feeling of a traditional balcony.

When they announced Edge and we could see plans of what they wanted it to be like, my favourite place was Eden, its dining and entertainment over 3 decks. All in a curving wall of glass. It looks inviting and fun and I can picture myself drinking cocktails watching the world go by!!

The newer feature that is so unique is, the Magic Carpet, a 90-ton platform will be on the side of the ship that moves up and down. People can use this platform while tender boarding and it will also be a lounge/restaurant where the experience of eating on the magic carpet will be truly special.
