What a Carry On – Size DOES matter!

The last time I flew I treated myself to a lovely pink mock-crocodile carry on case, it had wheels a handle, pockets and zips and was the most beautiful piece of luggage
I checked in smugly knowing that the weight was just under the maximum of 10 kg and went through to the departure gate to be instructed that I had to make sure my bag would fit in the measuring gauge, tears welled up in  my eyes as I realised it was too big!

I tried to take things out, my hairdryer and magazines, but no matter how I pushed and squeezed and pushed it just would not fit, there was no way I was going to leave my gorgeous bag behind so I had to pay £50 to take it it as hold baggage

It’s not just about the weight of your hand luggage but more importantly the size, your carry on bag must fit in the overhead locker or in the footwell of the seat in front

Measuring your carry-on luggage in advance of travel ensures that your suitcase meets the airline’s size requirements and does not become a checked bag at the last moment. Check with your airline to determine its sizing requirements. While most airlines allow carry-on bags with a linear measurement of under 45 inches, some, low cost carriers may be more strict and set their own policies.

Channel 5’s The Gadget Show recently reviewed the best carry on luggage in terms of size and durability and these are the top 3, so there is no excuse to get caught out this summer!
