Brits Abroad and Bad Behaviour

It has been reported that  5 British passengers have been thrown off  P&O’s Oriana after reports of a fight on board amongst passengers believed to be members of the same family

Is this an isolated incident or is Bad Behaviour amongst Brits on cruises on the rise?

Crew of the Oriana asked the passengers to make their own way home from the Belgian port of Zeebrugge.

According to reports from other guests on board the 69,000 ton vessel, a disturbance involving fighting and arguments among a family party broke out between late Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday.

The 5 passengers were ordered off the P&O Cruises’ ship when Oriana docked in Zeebrugge during a short two-night voyage which left Southampton on Saturday.

After being interviewed by Belgium police, members of the group were refused permission to re-board Oriana and had to make other travel arrangements to return to Southampton.

In a brief statement a spokesman for P&O Cruises said: “We can confirm five passengers were asked to disembark Oriana following an incident during the early hours of Sunday morning.”

Are incidents of rude and inappropriate behaviour on the rise  or is it just media hype as cruising becomes more popular in the face of lower fares?  Do you agree that cheap cruise fares whether last minute or not are attracting new customers who may have thought they couldn’t afford cruising?

Cruisers are rumbling about an influx of troublemakers (or “chavs” ) attracted by low prices,  a few years ago there was a much-publicized brawl on P&O’s Ventura at Christmas

Another incident reported recently was the image of a man messing around on his balcony, not only endangering his own safety but also the safety of other passengers and property

With the introduction of more cruise lines going ‘All Inclusive’ with complimentary drinks packages is this only likely to get worse?
