Norway what I got up part 2…

Well, last time I told you about the first part of my cruise, and some of the ports I visited well this time I’m going to tell you about what I got up to in Olden and Bergen,

Olden, we docked in a small village the village center is a little walk from the port, however, there are a few souvenir shops directly where the ship is docked. We had a tour that took us to the Briksdal Glacier, I’m not sure if we knew what we were letting ourselves in for. The guide did advise that it was about a 45 min hike and started off steep, however it evened out I’m not sure how much of a steep incline I expected.  The girls who I was walking with set off at a fast pace and I couldn’t keep up so hung back a bit and walked with a few other girls in our party. You can take a troll car up from the bottom it takes you to where the incline  starts to flatten if you  cannot climb it’s worth booking this option. We just passed this point and few of our party members were making there way back down I couldn’t believe they had climbed it so quickly… We asked if we had much further and advised just around the corner, so off we started to hike we seemed to be going a lot further than just around the corner however when we got to the foot of the glacier there was a beautiful turquoise lake. We took our pictures and headed back down where the coffee and cakes were awaiting us at the bottom. Once in the cafe I asked one of the girls what they thought of the lake she was like what lake? so I showed her a picture no wonder they were so quick they had literally got around the corner from the troll car saw a viewing platform and thought that was it.. oh dear they did not live it down the rest of the cruise as they had posted pictures to say “we made it” well nearly but not quite… After the refreshments, we headed back to the ship stopping for a quick photo opportunity on the way back. Like Flam there are alternative excursions on offer in Olden for you to do however I can recommend the glacier  if hiking  is not for you definitely book the Troll car.

Next stop was Bergen being a small ship we could dock within walking distance of the main area. We  again had a small tour of the area then we were taken to the funicular. The funicular took us to a lovely viewing point over the town. You could walk back down to the town if you wish however we took the funicular both ways. Once back in the town we had a saunter,  there are lots of little streets with nice shops cafes and eateries. There was a fish market in the town where you could have lunch if you wanted to. There is an area called Bryggen which is a world heritage site dating back to the 12th century a lot was destroyed by fire and has been reconstructed, definitely worth a vist,  lots of local businesses have opened arts and craft galleries here.

I must say the Fjords were always on my bucket list and I totally fell in love we did have amazing weather which I think makes any holiday… I will be returning hopefully sometime soon

Next time I’ll tell you about my trip on Celebrity Constellation.
