Norway what I got up part 1…

Our first port day was in Amsterdam with it being a national holiday for “Kings Day” we were advised to wear orange. Amsterdam was extremely busy with everyone enjoying the activities on and off the water. The afternoon was really busy with people arriving to join in the celebrations, Dam square had dj’s and a real party atmosphere. The canals were full of boats playing music and lots of alcohol being consumed.   We all felt part of the celebrations and I’m sure they went on well into the evening…

Eidfjord was the next port. I was up bright and early to try and watch the sunrise, however, due to the mountains being so high this was not going to happen. The fjord was so calm as we headed to the village of Eidfjord and what a picturesque little port his was, this was my very first sailing to the fjords and I fell in love it’s probably the most stunning place I’ve ever been to. The reflections of the snow-capped mountains in the fjord you cannot ask for anything better. We headed up out of the resort to the Mountain Plateaux and the weather changed from the sunny fjord where the ship was docked to the mountain top where you could hardly see a 100 meters in front of you. You could experience skiing and there were snowmobiles up there also. On the way back down we stopped at a picturesque photo stop then to the Norwegian nature  Centre where we watched a film on the area and the wildlife that you could find there. We headed back to the ship and her beautiful setting.

Flam was next this was a tender port for us and the process went very smoothly. We boarded the Flam railway as soon as getting off the ship another stunning experience with waterfalls on the way up were just starting to melt we passed lots of little picturesque villages what consisted of a small handful of homes. You stop on the way up and down and can get off for a quick photo stop at a lovely waterfall. Once at the top again you have a quick ten minutes photo opportunity. You can change here for onward journeys however we had the return back down to the ship. There were several people getting off so far down and cycling the rest of the way this is an excursion that you can do. The railway is defiantly an experience you should do if heading to Flam and book early to reserve your seat. There were a few other excursions to offer should you not wish to do the railway. The village had a few souvenir shops a lovely little bakery and a little pub.

Next time I’ll let you know about Olden and Bergen.

I’m also off on Celebrity Constellation next week so watch out for my updates on Facebook…
