One off the bucket list….

For all I’ve been on a few cruises I have a few sail away’s that are on my bucket list… Venice has been one I’ve always wanted sail along the Grand Canal past St Marks square,  and I’ve just ticked it off… I must say it didn’t disappoint and hopefully will be back soon.

We flew out to Venice and had two nights pre-cruise in Venice which I’ll tell you about that another time. We embarked on Celebrity Constellation. She’s a Millennium class ship smaller than our last celebrity sailing which was Equinox. She holds 2038 passengers as opposed to 2850 on Equinox.

I loved the size of Constellation there was always space around the pool and even on a sea day, you could always get a sunbed. The lounge areas and the ship, in general, were immaculately kept however I felt she could do with the furnishings been updated as some of the colours were a bit gaudy. The main dining room the San Marco was quite dark, again it could do with been brought up to date. However, the decor did not take anything away from the experience.  We had an amazing holiday, and  I’m beginning to realise that the mid-size ships are becoming my favorites. Here’s what I thought of Constellation’s dining options.

The food was a really good standard and they still do the lobster or beef wellington on the last celebrity chic night. The buffet we didn’t visit on an evening however for breakfast and lunch there was lots of choices to suit all tastes. Eggs pasta etc made to order. We booked 4 specialty meals before we went on board, so once onboard we had to make reservations for the nights we wanted I would suggest doing this as soon as onboard as we struggled to get the times and dates we wanted. Qsine which had a quirky concept where you choose your food from an I-pad it’s based on small and large plates and has everything from fish and chips to Lebanese, Indian and Chinese dishes.  We visited twice and had different on both occasions. We also visited Tuscan Grille which as an Italian steakhouse, again the food here is a very good standard. Both of these restaurants for all we struggled to book a table were never full. The other specialty option is sushi on 5 it’s all in the name.  I would also suggest to anyone on select dining to book your table in advance before sailing if you like to eat 8 o’clock onwards as the queues where massive and they would not allow you to book times onboard where in the past with have been able to. They do operate a buzzer system we tended to eat around 730 and occasionally had to wait. The mast grill served burgers, hotdogs, and fries by the pool during the day.

next time I’ll tell you more about Constellation.
