Mykonos White Wash and Windmills…

Our Constellation Cruise took us to the Lovely island of Mykonos. An island we have never visited before however always one we wanted too.

The ship managed to get a dock so no tender for us, however, this is often a tender port so be prepared. There is a free shuttle around to the bus station on the outskirts of town or if your tender this takes you right into the heart of Mykonos town. From the bus station, you can take local buses to the beaches and around the island. We had thought about heading to a beach however it was extremely windy so just decided to head into town.

The town is very typically Greece most of the buildings are whitewashed.  The quaint harbour is lined with shops and places to relax have a beer a coffee or a bite to eat. We headed for the Windmills meandering through the narrow pedestrianised streets. Lots of beautiful flowers tiny side streets pretty shops selling arts and crafts at every turn. The windmills are at the back of the town, they maybe could have done with a lick of paint however still worth the visit. The resort looked like it had quite a few boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts and is a very popular holiday destination offering beautiful landscapes, picturesque white painted villages, hundreds of little churches and windmills.

We headed back into the town and decided to do a spot of people watching over a drink in one of the harbour front cafes. From here its a perfect spot to people watch catch the local fishermen bringing in and selling their catch. There are a couple of little beaches in the town, if you wished to do a spot of sunbathing and not going too far, however they were shingle not sand.

Definitely, one to visit whether you decide to tour the island go to the beach or just wander around the pretty town.

till next time
