My day on Balmoral…

I’ve recently been lucky enough to visit Fred Olsen’s Balmoral. She was docked in the Port of Tyne. Which living in the north made it ideal for me to visit.

She’s is the biggest ship in the Fred Olsen fleet yet only 43,537 tonnes holding  1350 passengers.  She had a refurbishment ready for the 2018 season updating cabins and other areas throughout the ship.
The cabins have been brought up to date with new carpets and furnishings.  I got to see all levels of cabins from inside, single inside, ocean view, Balcony and even suites. I must say I was very surprised by the size and standard. The suites were impressive with huge balconies and lounge areas.  I was also surprised by the single inside which was a very good size. Some of the other singles I saw had three-quarter beds as opposed to a single bed which I thought was good.

She has 6 restaurants the main dining room the  Ballindalloch offers the 2 set dining times with no freedom option for dining. They do however have the buffet option Palms cafe and also speciality options the Grill with a small supplement £20.00 per person and the poolside also with a cover charge. There is also the option to eat al fresco on the back of the ship which it is something I love. They offer afternoon tea at a supplement and have a bookmark cafe serving coffees and premium chocolates.

They have 2 Pools and 4 jacuzzis I loved the aft pool and imagine it’s a hit with its lovely views off the back of the ship. Saying that I loved the seating area around the main pool with wicker sofas and chairs and comfy cushions. The gym was a good size with all the up to date equipment and a separate weights room. There was a full range of classes that could be booked at a supplement.
Balmoral has 5 bars and lounges and 2 show lounges with lots of options of entertainment the show has 2 performances to cater for both dinner sittings. They have a full daytime entertainment programme and have guest speakers. No one will go without a dance as they have dance hosts onboard also. The offer a good all-inclusive option at £15 per person per night.
Overall I thought she was a lovely small ship she can get into ports that some of the bigger ships cannot. Her decor is up to date from cabins to all the public spaces. I can see why the line is loved so much and has a lot of repeat guests.
