Captain Mc Dreamy , on Board Azura.

Captain McDreamy was the nick name the passengers gave our Captain , on board Azura on my recent cruise, you will see why !!!

Captain Robert Camby

I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting our wonderful Captain in a very private meeting on the bridge of the Azura, the largest bridge in P and O fleet, how you may ask, well it was all in the name of charity. On board Azura held an auction , all proceeds go to the Macmillan Nurses fund. (P and O have raised over £1,000,000 already for the charity). Whilst having fun bidding, I got to £100 then my husband was getting worried , so luckily for me my friend Carol stepped in and said she would match my bid. We managed to secure the bridge tour for the 4 of us for the princely sum of £230. (worth every penny as is for such a worthy cause).

So with bated breath I waited until our sea day, on our return from the Canaries to Lisbon, for our visit to see our wonderful Captain Mc Dreamy in his rightful place on the bridge.on the bridge

We were lucky it was a formal night, so in our best dress we arrived at the bridge at 6pm prompt to meet our wonderful captain and have a tour of the bridge.  The flags you see behind us all rolled up all have special meanings e.g. Crew member diving, no sickness etc and need to be flown in certain countries when needed. although as Robert said, mostly done by email now couple days before reaching the port. However the British flag is always hoisted when in port.

leaving maderia

This was while we were docked in Maderia.

The view that the Captain gets when reversing or turning the ship is straight down the side of the ship, he said that he can not see the back but its like driving a car and not being able to see the end of the bonnet !!!

captains view

The bridge was amazing, and the last thing to say was I got to read out the ”thought for the day” (done at 6pm every day by our Captain) to 4000 people, I was extremely nervous luckily it was one the captain had prepared earlier.

So here it is : ” If at first you don’t succeed, Sky diving is not for you !!”

More to come on Azura……..
