Trains, Hop on , Hop off buses and Penguins

For my last 2 ports of call I tried Trains , Hop on hop off buses and visited the penguins.

On my travels around the Fjords our last port of call was Stavanger. What a beautiful town.

The town is  filled with lovely little boutique shops. (Even Zara!!)

Don’t forget to check out the church , its really pretty and just to the side and around the corner a fabulous chocolate shop.

You can visit the Oil Museum,  called the Norsk Oljemuseum, When seen from the sea it looks like an oil platform. This is a landmark of the port of Stravanger.

You can travel all around the town , visiting the many galleries on the hop on hop off bus, that leaves from just next to the port. We stayed on and had a good ride round. In the middle of the town is the famous street with the painted houses, bars and restaurants. It is lovely to sit have a coffee and crepes (with sour cream and jam) and watch the world go by.

You can also visit the tax shop to claim back your taxes , however you have to have your goods with you.

ALESUND

Alesund Is surrounded by Islands and is easily explored on the mini road train. With excellent commentary to talk you through the beautiful town and its history, a must do here! They take you right to the highest point and the view is amazing. The Atlantic Sea-Park is one of Scandinavia’s largest salt water aquariums and one of the leading tourist attractions in the area. They have a tank full of  Cod , Halibut and salmon, with  4,000,000-litres of Atlantic sea water,  The diver goes into the tank and feeds them while you watch, pretty impressive (the fish are huge)

They also have a section where you can actually touch the sea life in the 2 open touch pools and 2 activity pools , crabs, lobster, clams etc, great for children.

When this star fish was placed on the clam the clam swam away, it was really funny to watch. Not to forget to mention the Nemos in the indoor section and the penguins outside.
