Is Black Friday Worth The Hype ??

The USA has been going crazy for Black Friday since the 60s. Black Friday is commonly named after the day retail companies would become profitable for the year. Retailers used to record their losses in red ink and profits in black. That’s just not the case on where the name came from. The term Black Friday is rooted in Philadelphia. In the 1950s, police in The City used the term Black Friday to describe the horde of shoppers from the suburbs that descended into the city for the days after Thanksgiving. traffic Police (cops in the USA) were required to work 12-hour shifts, no one could take off and people would flood the sidewalks, parking spaces, and streets.

Black Friday in the UK never really took off until 2014, Everyone went crazy !!! I can remember seeing videos of crowds of people pushing through shop doors like savaged animals, people getting knocked over, trampled on and badly injured and for what ?? to save a few quid. I have never really gone mad for black Friday, I’m normally working but can’t resist a quick look online but I don’t normally buy anything.

This year retailers apparently were not as busy as shoppers took the lazy option and shopped via the internet.  Barclaycard, which processes nearly half of all UK debit and credit card transactions, had as of 1300 GMT seen a 12 percent drop in the amount spent, though the volume of transactions was 15 percent higher than seen at the same point of last year’s Black Friday. “Our data shows that people have been making a higher number of less expensive purchases than at this time last year,” said Konrad Kelling, managing director of Barclaycard Payment Solutions.

Even here at cruise.co.uk, I didn’t feel the same buzz as last year, cruise lines weren’t really offering as great a deal based on previous years.

Did you buy anything in the BLACK FRIDAY sales and how much did you save and what about today, Cyber Monday ??
