The smaller the better!

With a maximum capacity of 600 passengers the Saga Sapphire offers cruising at it’s best! Saga have the unique selling point that they offer free chauffeur transfer from your home to the port of departure and return and with a minimum age limit of 50 years young this makes good sense. The small ship experience is always sought after as this will allow easier access into the smaller, perhaps more interesting ports. Beware however as this can be a disadvantage if the weather is not so kind!

The public areas are spacious and comfortable, however the highlight for me was the quality of the food served. The menu in the a la carte restaurant ‘Pole to Pole’ is delicious and varied – something for everyone. Every client has the opportunity to dine at least once in the speciality restaurant ‘East to West’ and the food here was outstanding – it was recently voted ‘Best for Small Ship Dining’ at the prestigious Cruise Critic awards. The quality of the wines served were also excellent as this cruise was on an ‘all inclusive’ basis. As well as WIFI, the gratuities for the on-board staff are included in the cost you know the staff are being kind and attentive as they want to be and not with any other agenda.

The evening entertainment was of a good standard and a particularly nice touch was the piano bar on board with a delightful young gentleman called Ben who would play any song on the ivories you cared to name.

I was particularly pleased with my cabin being a larger than average oceanview but with enough space to have a small sitting as well as dining area if you ever needed to partake in the complimentary room service. There was a bath with shower over to complete the facilities.

With Saga launching their new ships ‘Spirit of Adventure’ in the Summer of 2020 and it’s sister ship ‘Spirit of Discovery’ in July 2019 where every cabin has a balcony, they are also offering a large number of single cabins and so with this recipe of success, something for everyone!
