Anyone for a tipple?

Is the question that most cruise lines seem to be asking their passengers more frequently at the moment.

Two more cruise lines (P&O and Cunard) have just launched their own All Inclusive drinks packages to guests who sail aboard their ships. So is this just another money making scheme or are these cruise lines listening to their guests?

With average prices of an Alcohol package sitting around the £60 per person per day mark, is this really value for money? Consensus among those I have spoken to so far is that they wouldn’t be able to drink that much in a day, especially if they are ashore most days so they definitely won’t be purchasing a package. However if it was offered free, would that be a deal clincher? For most people it would be!

So love it or hate it drinks packages are here to stay and the once unheard of phrase of All Inclusive on a cruise, is now just a distant memory.

Let’s just hope that the concept doesn’t take us down the booze cruise route and just enhance the already exceptional experience on-board the many cruise ships that now offer this.

  1. We have cruised with Thomson (Now Marella) on 16 cruises since 2010 on an all inclusive offered free for early booking. We have yet to see anyone falling about legless or making a nuisance of themselves, although some have been a little tipsy. It is possible that we may have been lucky not to witness any drunken unruliness during our cruises including 6 days at sea crossing the Atlantic.
I cannot understand all the negative reporting about all inclusive cruising, you either like a drink or you don’t, just because you won’t have a large bill at the end of you cruise, won’t turn you into an alcoholic or drunken lout. Just because people think their drink is free won’t make any difference if they want to overindulge, they will do it even if they have to pay. Just go into any home city at drinking venue closing times and you will see plenty of drunks staggering and falling about and they had to pay for it.
