THE HISTORY OF QUANTUM OF THE SEAS – A NEW GENERATION OF CRUISING  When we step on board a ship like Quantum I guess only then can we fully appreciate the time that has not only gone into the design but then also the production of making a ship like this. The design and ideas for this ship started many many years ago behind the scenes before any of us had any idea until finally in April 2013 and after the deal was done, the design was signed and sealed, documents were delivered to an over eager Meyer Werft dockyard in Papenburg  Germany ,Royal Caribbean announced Quantum to the industry and of course the world .      This video really does sets the scene on the making of Quantum nick named ‘The Sunshine Ship’ Click on the link and have a look for yourself. It really does make you realise the work that goes into making a ship like Quantum. The making of Quantum of the Seas    This morning and only  16  months later after going into production Quantum of the seas floated out of Meyer Werft Dockyard to a gathering crowd and press who were all eager to see what all the fuss was really about and boy she didn’t disappoint. With a surprising 30 foot pink bear on top deck (part of the ships 2980 piece art collection) the 18-deck, 4,180-passenger Quantum finally made her debut, she will still undergo two months of finishing before being delivered to Southampton in just under 3 months time but boy already she is looking the part. Here are some great pictures of her float out.   Embedded image permalink     If you want to see it as it happened then look no further click on the link below and see the live recording. 1. We are booked for “Anthem ” in May 2015. Having always cruised with RCI on I.O.T. S. Always dined in the MDR. This new dynamic dining, where you are required to pre-book without knowing the full menu, only samplers shown at present and which is the same every day through out the cruise and in most dining options a surcharge is levied ( some quite expensive ) I can only see that the Windjammer buffet bursting at the seams each evening. I am still not convinced this dynamic dining will work. Most of the proper dining venues, ( not snack meals ) I believe can house no more than 200+ guests at one time. With the average time taken to eat a three course meal of approx. one and a half hours, with some places more popular than others and with 4000+ passengers I can only envisage long queues and eventual chaos. That’s why we have booked some nights in the Grande restaurant for traditional dining and resigning ourselves to spending the rest of our evenings eating in the Windjammer. None of the other styles of menus remotely interest us. Have you seen the Traditional Pub menu from an American cook! it’s a joke. Why have Jamie Oliver producing Italian food? It goes on. We were not aware of all this dynamic dining until after we booked. One of the many Crown & Anchor members to have the chance to book first back in February, before their televised announcement regarding these new dining options. Now wish maybe we hadn’t, like some members of this forum echo. Let’s hope we’re proved wrong, as we have always enjoyed our times with RCI on our past cruises.
