The Breathtaking Fjords

Back in 2015 I was lucky enough to board P&O Britannia in her Maiden year on her inaugural voyage to Norway. I have sailed on many different cruises but this one in particular felt a very special one. We were on a 7 night round trip from Southampton, stopping at Bergen, Olden, Flam and Stavanger.

I have had very mixed reviews from customers and fellow cruisers on their opinions of Britannia but we absolutely loved her. I found her interiors very comforting but contemporary. Yes there is the issue with midship stairwells otherwise the mix of venues and entertainment was fantastic.

One of the highlights on board was eating at The Epicurian Restaurant. It has still been to this day one of the finest meals I have ever tasted! If you are ever on board Britannia, I highly recommend spending the extra and treating yourselves to a meal at The Epicurian.

I am not sure anyone can prepare you for the absolute beauty of the Fjords. You can see it in pictures and think that looks nice but once you are there the majesty of the views are breathtaking. Even sailing into the cities, the views where beautiful.

My favourite port was Olden.   This little isolated village is located in the Southern shore of The Nordfjorden. It is a tiny little port in the most majestic place I have ever seen.  I honestly felt like I was in a movie set or something. We took a tour which included a coach trip further into the fjord, where we boarded a boat where we saw The Birkstall Glacier. The picture below shows the colour of the water in the lake, I have never seen anything like it!

Flam was the next stop, we also organised a tour here. We took the train up the mountain, where we saw snow so deep it was almost 2 storey houses! We then took the train only less than halfway back and has the most  fun cycling back down the rest!

So would I go back to Norway? Answer, I am so excited to be booked on P&O Iona’s Maiden Voyage to the Fjords in 2020. P&O have some incredible offers on cruises to the Fjords, so why not give me a call so you can experience the beauty for yourselves.
